• April 20: The Boston Red Sox open in the new Fenway Park with a 7-6, 11-inning win over the New York Highlanders before 27,000. Minutes later, the Detroit Tigers opens remodeled Navin Park (later renamed Tiger Stadium), and beats the Cleveland Indians 6-5 in 11 innings before 24,384.

• Triangular Test tournament played between England, Australia, and South Africa in England. England won, Australia second.

• Victorian Football League - Essendon wins the 16th VFL Premiership (Essendon 5.17 (47) d South Melbourne 4.9 (33))

• England - FA Cup: Barnsley beat West Bromwich Albion 1–0 (aet) in a replay. The first match finished 0–0 (aet).
