 1939 Quebec election - Definition

In the Quebec general election on October 25, 1939, the Quebec Liberal Party under Adélard Godbout defeated the incumbent Union Nationale under Maurice Duplessis.

This was Godbout's second (nonconsecutive term of office), and his only victory out of four consecutive general elections opposing Duplessis.

This election saw the return of the re-formed Action libérale nationale under Paul Gouin, who had split with Duplessis soon after the formation of the Union Nationale. However they obtained only 4.5% of the vote and no seats, and disappeared from history. Also, a rump Quebec Conservative Party ran three candidates and got 0.2% of the vote and no seats, and the Conservatives also disappeared from the Quebec provincial political scene.
