The 2007 Cricket World Cup will be hosted by the West Indies. It will consist of 16 nations divided into 4 groups of 4 teams. The top two teams from each group will then compete in a "Super 8" format, similar to the current "Super 6" format, from which the semi-finalists will be decided. The ten Test nations will qualify automatically, as will Kenya, which has ODI status from the International Cricket Council. The other five spots will be filled by the top five finishers from the next ICC Trophy, which will be held in 2006. Although many people expected that some of the games would be played in the United States, at a newly built cricket ground in Lauderhill, Florida, specifically to help promote and develop cricket in that country, the International Cricket Council decided that awarding all matches to Caribbean nations was a stronger priority. In addition to the bid of Lauderhill CC from the United States, the bids from Bermuda, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and a second bid by Jamaica were rejected. The actual grounds on which the 2007 World Cup matches will be played will be announced soon, although Kensington Oval, Barbados has already been selected to host the Final.
