The 2-7 Avenue Express is one of the longer lines in the IRT division of the New York Subway. Operating between Wakefield (241 Street) in the Bronx near the Westchester County border and Brooklyn College in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, the 2 is express only in Manhattan. At late nights, it is local. It runs alongside the 1 & 9 trains in Manhattan from 96 Street to Chambers Street.
The 2 was one of the last strongholds of the Redbird cars. Introduced in the mid-1950s to early 1960s, they ran on the line until 2001-2002.
