The third dynasty of Ur reinstalled Sumerian rule after several centuries of Akkadian and Gutian kings (Sumerian Renaissance). It controlled the cities of Isin, Larsa and Eshnunna. The succession of kings is documented from Shulgi (2047 BC short chronology) down to Ibbi-Sin. Shulgi received the throne of Ur from Ur-Nammu who had surplanted the king of Uruk, Utu-khegal. Utu-khegal had unseated the Gutian king Tirigan. See also Sumerian king list.
