42 Loads was a punk band from Downers Grove, Illinois, existing from 1992-93 as part of a suburban punk/emo scene including bands such as Gauge, Cap'n Jazz, Friction and Dipole Moment. Taking their name from a box of laundry detergent, 42 Loads consisted of singer Steven Cooling, guitarist Pete Havranek (who would later be a part of Braid), bassist Basil Shadid and drummer Erik Hauskens. They released a demo tape on Havranek's own label, and disbanded in 1993 as the members graduated from high school.
