Eau de Cologne (French for "water of Cologne"), or "cologne" for short, is a type of perfume. In its original formulation, it was an alcoholic and watery suspension or distillation of the oils of bergamot, lemon, orange and orange blossom, with the addition of lavender oil and rosemary oil.
1709 Farina establishes the company in Cologne. Today the world´s oldest fragrance house.
J.M.Farina (1685-1766) made Cologne world famous by naming his fragrance EAU DE COLOGNE in honour of his hometown.
The people of Cologne honoured their celeberated citizen by placing a statue of him on the Town Hall, where you can still see it today.
1837 Johann Maria Farina is appointed purveyor to the court of H.M. Queen Victoria in the first year of her Reign. (The Farina-archive contains more than 50 royal warrants).
Today the VIII generation of Farina´s is still making the Original EAU DE COLOGNE.
