4 (New York City Subway) - Definition and Overview

The 4-Lexington Avenue Express is a train line in New York City's subway. It was originally a part of the Interborough Rapid Transit network, and was the first line to be built in New York. It operates from Woodlawn station in the Bronx to New Lots Avenue in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. The 4 runs as a local in the Bronx, express in Manhattan on the Lexington Avenue line, then express again in Brooklyn.

The 4 is world-famous because it is the official train of the New York Yankees. It stops Yankee Stadium, located at 161st Street-Yankee Stadium station in the Bronx. Several R62 and R142 cars running on this line are decorated with Yankee logos and colors.
