1 train approaching 125th Street
The 1 Broadway-Seventh Avenue Local and 9 Broadway-Seventh Avenue Local are two services of the New York City Subway. They are colored red, since they use the Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line; their routes are equivalent to said line. For more information on the line, including history, see that article.
Trains of the 1 service run all the time. During rush hours, 9 service runs along the same route, providing skip-stop service with the 1 through upper Manhattan. At other times, 1 trains stop at every station.
Former uses
The 9 designation was originally used for the Dyre Avenue Line until it was converted to through service in 1957.
