AMD K9 generation
The AMD K9 generation of CPUs will be the successor of the AMD K8 generation of CPU's.
K9 means it's AMD's ninth-generation of processor-cores for desktops and mobile computers.
Development
They don't exist yet (january 2005), but the assumption is made by several AMD-watchers, including a Japanese site named PC-watch link title (http://www.example.com) [1]
they will come out around end 2005 / begin 2006.
Development of this new generation of CPU's started about march 2003 [2].
In contrary to past generations of CPU's by AMD and Intel, this new generation CPU's will probably take less time to develop, due to optimizations in the developments by both Intel and AMD.
Some sources indicate that development will last about two years, and if that's true, we should expect the K9 around Q1 2006.
Upcoming K8 CPU's
According to AMD's own roadmap dating from november 2004 [3], the following chips will be released in the new feature, still based on the existing K8 core probably,
Now al these chips still include 90nm-technology and are announced for the second half of 2005, so it's questionable if this will make the AMD K9 generation, but if they switch to 65nm, maybe it will be their K9.
