The word ASAP is originally an ETLA for As Soon As Possible, but in modern day life it is even used as an expression, simply pronounced "A-sap" or spelt out "A-S-A-P".
The spoken expression is primarily (if not only) used when something has to be done by the person it's said to. Some people will use a phrase like "(please) do it ASAP" as a (polite) order, and it's generally used within organizations between differently ranking participants/employees.
Besides occurring in colloquial settings and humourous ironic/sarcastic written material, ASAP is also sometimes informally used in preliminary and/or internal (software) engineering project notes, along with humourous term RSN as well as more formal/serious terms like TBA/TBC/TBD.
