 Ableton Live - Definition

Ableton Live is music sequencer software. Unlike other sequencing software, it is designed primarily to be used interactively, usually in the context of a performance. The user triggers audio samples (or MIDI sequences if using version 4) in real time. It is published by Ableton, a Berlin-based company founded by Gerhard Behles, a member of Monolake. Robert Henke, the other member of Monolake, is the lead software developer of Live and is responsible for most of its included audio effects.

The software features 'loop-markers' which allow the user to adjust the duration of samples while maintaing overall synchronisation and pitch. Pitchshifting that works independently of playback speed is also available to the user. The program supports the use of VST and AU plugin effects and instruments.
