Above the Law is a US 1988 action film in which a tough cop, Nico, plans to take down the CIA. Nico family has Mafia contacts. Nico is a 6th dan aikido black belt, a Vietnam War veteran.

The film begins with references to Seagal's interest in and practice of aikido. The photo of the "little old man" mentioned at the start of the film is Morihei Ueshiba.

The film was called "Nico" in the United Kingdom and other European countries.
