Abyss is a fictional character in Marvel Comics' universe. He first appeared in the alternate timeline of the Age of Apocalypse, in which he was one of Apocalypse's Horsemen, a nihilist with a warped sense of humor. His counterpart in the mainstream Marvel Universe first appeared in Cable #40. There it was revealed that his real name was, improbably enough, Nils Styger, and that he suffered from the Legacy Virus. Much later, was later recruited into Banshee's X-Corps. He was subsequently revealed to be Nightcrawler's half-brother, as both were sons of the demon Azazel.
A character very loosely based on Abyss appears in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as a boss character.
