Acey-Deucey - Definition and Overview

Acey-Deucey is a backgammon variant with different starting, ending, and doubles rules. All of your pieces start off the board. No piece may be placed until you first roll doubles or Acey-Deucey (1-2) on your turn. Once you make an eligible starting roll you must use it to bring at least one checker onto the board at that number. Moving additional pieces out is then at your discretion so long as the point is open. Pieces are then moved as in regular backgammon with the exception of doubles rules, Acey-Deucey, and checker removal rules.

To remove a piece from the board, you must have all your pieces in your home area and roll exactly the number of the spot you wish to remove a piece from. If you roll Acey-Deucey (1-2) and can use both, then you are awarded doubles of your choice (6-6, ..., 1-1). If you roll Acey-Deucey or doubles you immediately roll again without your opponent taking a turn, but if you roll any combination of doubles and/or Acey-Deucey three times in a row you forfeit your turn. As in backgammon, you must always use a roll if you can. Acey-Deucey makes a nice alternative after several games of backgammon in a row. Games take about twice as long as a regular backgammon game.
