Acushnet is a town located in Bristol County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 10,161.

History
Acushnet was first settled in 1659 and was officially incorporated in 1860.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 49.0 km² (18.9 mi²). 47.8 km² (18.5 mi²) of it is land and 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.43% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,161 people, 3,793 households, and 2,837 families residing in the town. The population density is 212.6/km² (550.6/mi²). There are 3,889 housing units at an average density of 81.4/km² (210.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.20% White, 0.42% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.78% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. 0.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,793 households out of which 32.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% are non-families. 21.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.13.
In the town the population is spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.0 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $51,500, and the median income for a family is $58,722. Males have a median income of $38,709 versus $28,649 for females. The per capita income for the town is $21,753. 3.8% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line.
