Adam Selene is the nom de guerre of the fictional character Mike in the science fiction novel The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, by Robert A. Heinlein. Note that the last name is taken from Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, which is the location of the novel.
In the novel, Heinlein posits advanced Artificial Intelligence software for the consciousness of the character of Mike (Mycroft, from the HOLMES acronym in the book). Mike's awakening is a fictional example of the emergent theory of consciousness. Similarly, Heinlein proposes advanced real-time computer graphics and speech synthesis techniques for portraying Adam Selene over video phones, techniques that were far in advance of the primitive line drawing CG capabilities of the time (mid 1960s).
