Adjuntas, Puerto Rico - Definition |
|
|
Adjuntas is a small mountainside town in Puerto Rico. Adjuntas is to the midwest area of the island, near San Sebastian, and twenty minutes away by car from Ponce. It is about four hours by car from San Juan. The main industry is the growing of tropical crops such as bananas and coffee.
Adjuntas is nicknamed the Switzerland of Puerto Rico, because of its relatively chilly weather. Many Puerto Rican mountain towns have colder weather than the rest of the island; Adjuntas is no exception: in Adjuntas, average yearly weather is 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
No professional sports teams make Adjuntas home, but they do have a doble A league baseball team. In addition, there is a small airport that caters to private airplanes.
Adjuntas was featured in part of an article about Puerto Rican lifestyles released in the March 2003 National Geographic magazine issue.
