Agnus - Definition

Agnus is the name of a range of custom chips that were featured in the Amiga home computer. The Agnus and Denise chips collectively formed the OCS/ECS chipsets.

Agnus was responsible for

  • Providing DMA for sound and graphics
  • Handling memory (Memory that can be accessed by the processor and the chipsets)
  • Video timing
  • The logic for the copper and blitter coprocessors.

Agnus was replaced by Alice in the A4000 and A1200 when the AGA chipset was introduced.
