Ai Yazawa (矢沢あい Yazawa Ai) (born March 7, 1967) is a popular girls' manga author in Japan.
Ai Yazawa started her mangaka life publishing in Ribon, from 1985 when she was 17 years old. She wrote over ten series through 15 years publishing in RIBON. Now she mainly publishes recent manga series from a manga magazine for hi-teens called COOKIE.
With her experience of attending special school of art and the gifted senses, she creates gorgeous, realistic world in her mangas.
She has written many stories that are read among Japanese girls and women. The girls in her stories are always very fashionable and stylish, and many readers adore her fashion sense. Her stories are also very lovable, and many readers identify with the characters in the story. She has also published many illustration collections.
The four most famous comics created by this author are: Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai, Gokinjo Monogatari, Paradise Kiss, and NANA.
NANA is the most recent and ongoing series. So far (Nov. 2002), there are seven books in the series, which have sold a total of 750 million copies.
