Ail (or "Al" or "Alan") is an anime-only character appearing at the beginning of the second, or 'R' season of Sailor Moon. He first appears in Episode 47.
"Ail" is from the first syllable of alien, as his sister/partner in mayhem's name is "En".
His "human" name is Ginga Seijuurou, using it to attend Juuban Junior High School, the school Usagi and most of the other "inner senshi" attend. His family name, "Ginga", means "galaxy" -- specifically the Milky Way; his given name, Seijuurou, breaks down into "sei" (star), "juu" (10) and "rou", a masculine name ending.
The story of Ail and En was a filler written for the Sailor Moon anime series when the first season and the first three volumes of the manga proved so popular. In order to give Takeuchi Naoko-san time to write the Dark Moon (Sailor Moon) storyline, Toei Animation wrote this story arc.
Ail used Cardians, summoned from a deck of cards and dispatched with his flute music, to collect human energy to feed his "parent", the Doom Tree. He flirts with Usagi at school because her energy seems to be what the Doom Tree likes best, and gradually becomes fond of her.
In a climactic battle when they try to feed Usagi to the tree, Ann is struck down, Alan realises he has feelings for her and the Doom Tree reveals the truth of their collective history. The three aliens leave the planet in peace in Episode 59 after Sailor Moon heals the Tree with the power of love.
