Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation (AWAC) is a privately held commuter airline. It serves as a feeder for United Airlines, operating regional jets under the name United Express.
Air Wisconsin flies out of Washington, DC's Dulles International Airport, Denver, Colorado's Denver International Airport, and Chicago, Illinois' O' Hare International Airport, primarily to destinations in the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard of the United States. It operates the BAe 146 Avro RJ and the Canadair Regional Jet.
The airline was originally founded to connect Appleton, Wisconsin with Chicago, but expanded across United's route network and through mergers with Mississippi Valley Airlines (1985) and Aspen Airways (1991). Air Wisconsin pioneered the concept of code-sharing with United Express and rapidly became the nations largest regional airline in the 1980's. It flew as a feeder for AirTran under the name AirTran JetConnect, but this relationship was discontinued in July 2004.
In 1993, Air Wisconsin was bought out by private investors.
