 Al-Khobar - Definition

al-Khobar is a small city located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its residents are mainly Saudi nationals and non-western expatriates (i.e. of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Filipino ethnicity). Many of the residents work for Saudi Aramco, one of the world's largest oil companies. Other residents work in support roles.

Earlier, Al-Khobar was a small port on the Persian Gulf, inhabited mainly by fishermen. With the discovery of oil, it was transformed into an industrial port.

It was the location of the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing and the 29 May 2004 Al-Khobar massacres.
