Alexander Romanov - Definition and Overview

Alexander Romanov, (Alexander Alexandrovitch, Grand Duke of Russia), was the infant son of Alexander III and Empress Marie of Russia. He was born in born 1867, and died 1870. At the time of his birth his father as the eldest son of Tsar Alexander II was titled as the Tsarevich of Russia, therefore as the eldest child of the Tsarevich, the infant Grand Duke was 2nd in succession to the imperial throne for the duration of his short life. On his death his position in line to the throne was taken by his younger brother the Grand Duke Nicholas. Thus the untimely death of this infant was a catalyst in the future history of the world.
