Alexander Shabalov is an American chess grandmaster, the multiple winner of the US Chess Championship. He is of Latvian origin, and is -- like his fellow Latvians Alexei Shirov and Mikhail Tal -- known for courting complications even at the cost of objective soundness. Shabalov as of Dec 09, 2004 had the United States Chess Federation rating of 2685, ranking him 7th best among American chess players.
