All-American All-American

All-American - Definition and Overview

The term "All-American" has two uses:

  • It can be used as a reference to an athlete selected as a member of an All-America team, as in "Eddie George was named an All-American football player by both wire services in 1995."
  • It is also the nickname of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, so called because the initial recruits came from all of the then-48 states of the US.
