Allerdale is a local government district and borough in Cumbria, England. Its council is based in Workington.

It was formed on April 1, 1974 by the merger of the urban districts of Workington, Maryport, Cockermouth, Keswick and the rural districts of Dockermouth and Wigton.

The name derives from the ancient region of Allerdale, represented latterly by the two wards of Cumberland, called Allerdale above Derwent and Allerdale below Derwent.
