Alor Star (pop. 400,000) (formerly known as Alor Setar) is the state capital of Kedah, Malaysia. The city serves a distribution center for manufacturing and agricultural products and as a transportation hub in the upper north.

The palace (known as Istana in Malay Language) is situated in Anak Bukit, a town in the north vicinity of Alor Star.
