The American Southeast refers to a region in the southeastern part of the USA. It usually consists of the following southern states:

These states are more often referred to as simply the South, although that term also includes North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. All of these states, with the exception of Oklahoma (which was not a state at the time) and Kentucky, were members of the Confederate States of America.
