Amir Abbas Hoveida - Definition and Overview

Amir Abbas Hoveida (in Persian: امیر عباس هویدا; February 18, 1919–April 7,1979), also spelled Hoveyda, was a significant Iranian politician. He served as Prime Minister of Iran from January 27, 1965 to August 7, 1977.

Hoveida, who was imprisoned by the government of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, pending various charges related to his time in office, was in jail when the Iranian Revolution of 1979 took place. He was tried before a revolutionary tribunal and executed by firing squad, the same year, on orders of tribunal judge Sadegh Khalkhali.
