Angel Heart is a 1987 movie that stars Mickey Rourke, Lisa Bonet and Robert De Niro. It was directed by Alan Parker.
It is a disturbing but expertly made film, combining elements of both film-noir and horror. The film was, at the time of it's release, a box-office success which gained some infamy for Lisa Bonet's (who had formerly played one of the children on The Cosby Show,) sex-scene, which had to be trimmed of several seconds to secure the film an 'R' rating on initial release.
The film is now known in cult circles for its excellent cinematography, unusual (but effective) blend of genres, Mickey Rourke's lead performance as private detective Harry Angel (which anchors the film), a very memorable performance from Robert DeNiro (in an atypical role, as an extremely refined but vaguely sinister character named Louis Cyphre) and a memorable "surprise ending."
