The term Anglo can be used as a prefix to indicate a relation to England, as in the phrases 'Anglo-American' or 'Anglo-America'.

It is also used, somewhat loosely, to refer to a person or people of English or British ethnicity in North America. In both the United States, especially in the Southwest, and Australia it usually means any white person of non-Hispanic ethnicity. In Australia this is because 'Anglo' is the abbreviation of Anglo-Celtic, which refers to the large proportion of Australians who are of mixed English and Celtic, namely Scottish, Irish and Welsh, stock.
