Anthony D. Weiner (b. September 4, 1964) is a politician from the state of New York.
Weiner, who is Jewish, was born in New York, New York. He worked on the staff of Charles Schumer from 1985 to 1991. Weiner was elected to the New York city council in 1991. Weiner won a seat in the United States House of Representatives as a Democrat in New York's 9th Congressional district, a seat Schumer held before being elected to the United States Senate, in 1998. Weiner's district includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens including Sheepshead Bay, Forest Hills, and Rockaway Beach.
Weiner was first elected in 1998, and reelected in 2000, defeating Republican Noach Dear 68%-32% and in 2004, defeating Republican former teacher Gerard Cronin 70%-30%
Weiner has had a liberal voting record on the House. He is running for the Democratic Nomination for mayor of New York City in 2005 against incumbent Michael Bloomberg.
