Anti-Islamism is a term that usually refer to the position, that Islam and especially Islamic fundamentalism is a danger to Muslims and/or non-Muslims. Islam is viewed by anti-islamists as a religion, that through its influence will affect Muslims and non-Muslims in a negative way.

As a position Anti-islamism has most likely been growing in recent years, especially after the September 11 terrorist attacks and following increase in violent conflicts between Muslims and non-Muslims. Apart from these issues and conflicts, the rapidly growing number of Muslim immigrants has most likely added to anti-islamic sentiment in the these Western countries. Anti islamism though, is not a position that is restricted to members of the populations of the western world. Strong anti-islamic feelings and positions is not very uncommon in non-Western countries like India, Israel and Russia where the populations has experienced conflicts with members of the islamic religion. Apart from the non-Muslims, many islamic apostates or ex-Muslims has been expressing Anti-islamic opinions, and among the more well-known Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Ali Sina and Ibn Warraq can be mentioned.

To justify their opinions, anti-Islamists usually argue that violence against non-Muslims is encouraged in the Quran and other islamic litterature, and that islamic prophet Mohammed himself commited, what we today would consider to be atrocities. Other common attacks on Islam and especially Islamic prophet Mohammed include that he allegedly was a pedophile because of his marrige to Aisha. Critics of the anti-islamists argue that the use of force to promote political interests, was not uncommon at the time of Mohammed, and claim that marriage between young girls and older men was common and accepted in the Arab society of that time. Other allegations by anti-Islamists include accusations that the Quran include grammatical and scientific errors, and because of this cannot be the direct word of God.
