In Polynesian mythology, Ao ("light") is the god of the clouds and the ancestor of the Maori. He is a patron of sailors, who use the clouds to navigate and predict weather. Alternative: Ao Toto ("blood red dawn")


In the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms campaign setting, Ao is the Overgod who rules over all other deities. He is most well known for casting down other deities in a cataclysmic event known as the Time of Troubles.
