In recent times, many Latin American football leagues have divided their championships into two sections, awarding a champion for each. The first of the two, usually held in the fall and winter, is known as the Apertura, the "Opening." It can be contrasted with second, spring section, the Clausura.
In French-speaking Haiti, these are known as the Ouverture and the Clôture.
