Arafat Arafat

Arafat - Definition and Overview

Arafat is a hill, commonly referred to as a "mount", on which Muslims believe the prophet Adam and Eve (Hawa) were reunited and forgiven by Allah. Do not confuse with Ararat.

It is also an important site because on the Hajj, Muslims are required to spend an afternoon there wearing essentially nothing but a white unhemmed cloth draped over the body and a pair of sandals.

It reaches about 70 metres in height.

The leader Yasser Arafat was named after this mountain.
