Ardee Ardee

Ardee - Definition and Overview

An October day on Market Street near Tenanty's Pub.

Ardee (Baile Átha Fhirdhia in Irish) is a town in County Louth, Ireland. It is located where the N2, N52, and N33 roads cross the River Dee. There is a castle in the town and an 18 hole golf course not far from the town. Its name in Irish is Baile Atha Fherida, mean in English means the "The Town of Fherida" who according to legend, fought his best best friend Cuhullian on the banks of the River Dee. Fherida died in this fight and Cuhullian in memory of his friend named it after him.

The town itself has grown much in the last ten years, mainly as a result of easy access to new roads with links to both Dublin and Belfast. The development of the town has resulted in a dramatic rise in house prices in the area.
