Are You Experienced? was the debut album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, released in 1967 (see 1967 in music). The album highlighted Jimi Hendrix's psychedelic, feedback-laden electric guitar mastery, and launched him as a superstar. Mitch Mitchell played drums and Noel Redding played bass. The singles "Are You Experienced?", "Foxey Lady", and "Purple Haze" still receive radio airplay on classic rock radio stations.
The album reached the #5 Billboard sales spot in the USA. It was originally released by Reprise Records, re-released by MCA in 1993, and then remastered and re-released by Universal in 1997, after Jimi Hendrix's father Al Hendrix received ownership of all Jimi's recordings as the result of a lengthy lawsuit.
Hendrix would go on to record only two more studio albums, Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland, before his death in 1970.
In 2003 the TV channel VH1 named Are You Experienced? the 5th greatest album of all time.
