Argyll and Bute is one of 32 unitary council regions in Scotland, and a Lieutenancy Area.

Its border runs through Loch Lomond, and it adjoins the regions of West Dunbartonshire and Highland.

The principal part of the council region is the traditional county of Argyll, excluding the Morvern area, north of Mull, which is now part of Highland. The region also includes the Isle of Bute itself (which is part of the traditional county of Bute) and the area to the south and west of Loch Lomond which is part of Dunbartonshire.

The regional administrative centre is located in Lochgilphead.
