The Army Public School was founded in May 1953 under the name Defence Services Public School for the children of the Indian armed forces personnel. It had a student body of 21 children as well as two teachers and was located at the Maulana Azad Road Officers Hostel in Delhi. The School shifted to its present campus in Dhaula Kuan, Delhi in 1970. On 15 Jul 1976 the School was renamed the army public school, when it became affiliated with the Directorate Of Education. As of 2004 it has approximately 4500 students and a teaching staff of nearly 200.
