An army-group is a military organization (formation) consisting of several armies, and is supposed to be self-sufficient for indefinite periods.

The borders of the area for which an army group is responsible are usually geographic ones.

Army group was a term used in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

In the Soviet Union this type of organizational unit was called a "front".

The army group (lowercase a) is not to be confused with an (uppercase A) Army, e.g. The Free Country Army could be composed of the First, Third, and Ninth armies.

Army groups may be multi-national formations, e.g. in 1944-45 during the Second World War Bernard Montgomery's 21st Army Group was comprised of the British Second Army, Canadian First Army and US Ninth Army.
