Artemisia annua is the official Latin name for a plant better known by names such as sweet sagewood, sweet wormwood, annual sagebrush, or Chinese wormwood. It is a common type of weed that grows throughout the world. It has recently come into the lime-light for being the type of wormwood from which the anti-malarial drug artemisinin is made. Artemisinin is also known by the Chinese name qinghaosu, and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine since 340s for the treatment of fever.
