The Aschen ("ah-SHEN") are a fictional human race from the Stargate Science fiction universe. The ancestors of the Aschen were kidnapped from Earth millennia ago by the Goa'uld to work as slaves. However the Goa'uld abandoned the Aschen home planet and by the year 2001 the Aschen had developed their own technologically advanced society. Among the Aschen technologies: teleportation, antigravity, advanced sensors, and advanced biological engineering.
In the alternate-future episode "2010" they demonstrated the ability to turn a gas giant into a star (this is actually an homage to the Arthur Clarke book 2010: Odyssey Two). The Aschen seem to have been capable of defeating the Goa'uld before 2010. However their understanding of the stargate technology was primitive.
The Aschen are the leaders of an alliance of planets which they have reduced to primitive farm worlds through long-term deception. In an alternate history, Earth had contacted the Aschen in 2000, and by 2010 the birth rates are drastically dropping. This would have continued unnoticed until Earth would have been to weak to resist occupation, if not for the intervention of the former SG-1 team. They used the stargate to send a message back in time not to go to P4C-970 (the Aschen homeworld). In 2001 however, SG-1 made contact with a different world, that had been taken over by the Aschen hundreds of years before. The natives introduced SG-1 to the Aschen but – because no one in Stargate Command knew the identity of P4C-970, or the location of the Ashen homeworld – they didn't immediately make the connection. Thus humans contacted the Aschen in spite of the warning. However the Ashen's intentions were discovered and contact was broken off.
What became of the Aschen after that is unclear: as part of a planned treaty, the Aschen were going to provide Earth with advanced technology in exchange for hundreds of Stargate addresses. The deal fell through when Earth discovered their treachery, but beforehand the Aschen were given a laptop computer containing hundreds of new gate addresses. Little did the Aschen know that Jack O'Neill had filled the list of addresses with useless and in many cases extremely dangerous addresses. As O'Neill put it "the first address on the list, that they'll start with, is a black hole. The addresses get progressively worse after that". Thus there is a strong chance that the Aschen homeworld was destroyed when they dialed the black hole.
