The town of Ashford lies in rolling hills beside Fraser's Creek on the western slopes of northern New South Wales, Australia, close to the Queensland border. A school, basic shops, churches, and recreation and entertainment facilities provide the essentials for a population of about 800 people. Ashford is the hub for a large agricultural area, an active retirement community, and regional tourism. Local attractions include Pindari Dam on the Severn River, Macintyre River Falls, and limestone caves at Kwiambal National Park.

The town's history includes being the seat of the Ashford Shire before amalgamation with adjacent shires including Inverell and Macintyre Shire, numerous tobacco farms, a coal mine, and a coal-fired power station. Farms in the area today produce mostly merino wool and beef.
