Ashra (born July 15) is an American percussionist and composer working mainly in the techno, acid and ambient music styles.
By the late 1980s he had begun to combine the ethnic beats of the world with the modern electronic music. In his recordings, the complex sounds of synthesizers and ethnic percussion instruments show his true characteristics. As a percussionist, he has performed widely in the USA.
He was a leader and percussionist in the hippie-influenced underground psychedelic trance band Ambient Committee, a duo with a Japanese synthesizer musician / composer AQi Fzono in the late 1980s. Their audio-visual live performances called Multimedia Visionquest, featuring electronic and ethnic music, video drug and trance dance. And they released an album "Mars Botanical Garden" in 1989.
Since 1997 he has been working for various ethnic dance groups as a percussionist. In 2001, Ashra released first solo album entitled "Desert", featuring his dynamic tribal percussions and ambient sounds recorded live in part at deserts in the US.
