ART is an acronym for Assisted Reproductive Technology. ART is a general term used to refer to methods used to achieve pregnancy by artificial or partially artificial means (i.e where sexual intercourse does not take place). A more narrow definition applies to methods where the egg cells and sperm are handled in the laboratory to achieve fertilization. ART techniques include in vitro fertilisation and , based on the range of the definition, may include artificial insemination.
