Astrological Ages are defined by the constellation of the zodiac in which the vernal equinox lies. Astrological Ages change because of a phenomenon known as the Precession of the Equinoxes. One complete period of this precession is about 25,925 years [2002 AD].
Commonly an Age is held to last for approximately 2,160 years, a 'Platonic' Month, i.e. one-twelfth of a complete precessional period. However, as the constellations vary considerably in length this is not very accurate. In particular, because of the relatively large length of the constellation of Pisces the Age of Aquarius will not start until approximately 2600 AD.
The idea of an Astrological Age is surprisingly recent, dating back to the nineteenth century.
