Augustus Siebe - Definition

Augustus Siebe (1788-1872), a German inventor living in Britain, helped develop the "closed" diving helmet of the standard diving dress in the 1830s revolutionising underwater civil engineering, commercial diving, underwater salvage and naval diving.

He helped to found Siebe Gorman Ltd. in London.
