Australian 3rd Division - Definition

The name 3rd Division has been used for two different units of the Australian Army.

In 1916, a 3rd Division was formed as part of the First Australian Imperial Force. When World War I ended the division was demobilised. See: Australian 3rd Division (World War I).

In 1921, the 3rd Division name was revived and was assigned to an Australian Citizens Military Forces (reserve) unit, which served in the South West Pacific theatre during World War II. See: Australian 3rd Division (World War II).
